COMPULSORY LABOUR SERVICE
CREATED IN FRANCE (Reed. 11 p.m.) London. Feb. 15. Vichy radio says that Cabinet, after hearing a statement from Laval, decided to create compulsory labour service in agriculture, workshops and industries for men from 23 to 25 years of age. The duration of service will be two years.
The announcer said the measure was necessitated by the needs of French economy and the Government’s concern about the ineounlitv under which the burden is borne at present bv the working people instead of all Frenchmen irrespective of social status.
The British United Press comments that the measure is clear] v related to the German for manpower as much as French industrial out nut end agriculture nreduce aiding the German war effort.
