TURAKINA SPORTS
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY MEETING A meeting of the Turakina Caledonian Society was held on Saturday night, the president, Mr. W. Glasgow, presiding. It was reported that the annual gathering, held on January 30, was very successful, competitors from all parts of the North Island taking part. A ladies’ piping competition, which was added to the programme, proved a great success, evoking keen competition. Mrs. Hector Grant presented a fine challenge cup to the society, to be competed for by competitors between the ages of 12 and 14 years. A cup was also presented by Mr. Hillary Glasgow for a points prize for competitors 14 to 16 years. Mr. lan Cameron, of Masterton, has donated a cup for next year, to be known as the Kenneth Cameron Memorial Cup, for slow march playing. On the president’s motion a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the donors for their generous donations, and to all other persons who assisted in donations and otherwise to make the gathering such a success. It was decided to provide more seating accommodation at the sports, and Mr. Holt Simpson kindly offered a pine tree that will probably cut 2000 ft. of timber.
It was decided to divide the profits between the sewing circle and the social club.
