BULLS BOWLING CLUB

MR. GEORGE ARCHER ELECTED LIFE MEMBER. A pleasing ceremony took place on the Bulls bowling green during last week, where the members assembled to honour one of their foundation members. Mr. George Clark (president) in presenting Mr. George Archer with a life member's medallion, stated that Mr. Archer had held the office of treasurer since 1920, and had always taken an active part in the beautiiication of the surroundings and in keeping the green in good order. At one time the club had four life members —Messrs. W. Doughty, J. McKelvie, J. Whisker and J. Ellery—who had all passed the Great Divide. "The club had suffered through a number of its members leaving the district but two years ago a successful 'drive' was made for new members, with the result that the club is much stronger in numbers. The club was now in a sound financial position, thanks to the practical management of its treasurer and also to Mr. W. Stevens and his green committee,” concluded Mr. Clark.

Mr. Archer received a warm ovation in making his reply and thanked the members for the honour that they had conferred upon him. It had been a "hobby” of his to attend to the beautifying of the grounds and he was pleased that they had met with the approval of the members and visitors, which he considered was ar ample reward for anything that he had done for the. benefit of the club, a remark which was greeted with applause.
