With all this, she still loves him, accepts his excuses and his devotion. But when she hears of th* mysterious death of Thwaite, his best friend, under circumstances that point, indirectly at least, to Johnnie as his murderer, Lina is frightened, and this is the beginning of a breathless series of suspicious happenings.
