MARTON BOWLING CLUB LADIES’ DAY NEXT WEEK A ladies’ day will be held on the Marton Bowling Club’s green on Wednesday, February 10. Visiting ladies are cordially invited and any Marton lady desirous of taking part will be welcomed. A draw will take place on the arrival of players by the New Plymouth express train. Local players are invited to bring a basket. On account of the annual meeting of the Women’s Institute on February 3 the date has been altered to February 10. Full Rink Championship. The full rink championship competition was resumed on Saturday. The green was in splendid order and very last. Following are the results of the games played:—Bending, Morris, von Hartiszch, Upchurch 26 v. W. J. Brown McDonald, Mclndoe, Hunter 14; Williams, Setford, Way, Tilley 33 v. Mogridge, Winchcombe, Kilpatrick, Cavernill 10; Hutton, Healy, Lourie, Hamer 22 v. Honeyman, Jonski, Hempieman, Barton 19; Tolley, Thomson, Brabyn 16 v. Finnimore, Green, Goebel 26; W. H. Brown, Mildenhall, Hawkins 15 v. Baines, Gibos, Atkinson 18. CIVIC THEATRE, MARTON Screening at Civic Theatre to-mor-row, “The Ghost Train” is a crackling new screen version of famous play, invigorated by topical twist, and starring Arthur Askey. Production breaks neatly into two parts—the dramatic and droll—thus making assured double appeal. Askey fans will love his antics; those who look for thrills are amply provided for in atmosphere or haunted wayside station, weird reconstruction of train tragedy and sound of ghostly express thundering past. Msytery well sustained, and talented case, headed by Askey and “Stinker” enter with zest into spirit of the adventure. It is an undoubted popular wiiinei all along the line—on thrills, comedy,' and star.
