Dr. Stanley Slater, Dunedin, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wentworth Slater. Wanganui. Mr. David Craig, of Raetihi, is an inmate of Braemar Hospital, Wanganui.

Messrs. L. J. Dale and J. F. Heyward have been elected Canterbury district representatives on the Pharmacy Board.

Captain W. E. Alexander, Army Heaoquartcrs, New Plymouth, has been appointed assistant-director of the Army Education and Welfare Service with the rank of major. He will arrive in Auckland eariy next ■month.

The death has occurred of Mr. James Andrew, an old resident ot Papakura, at the age of 78. Mr. Andrew, who was also well-kn-wn in the Gisborne district, was a member of the Papakura Town Board for many years and was one of the oldest members of the Papakura Bowling Club. A great-grandson of Viscount Kibblewhite, commander of a naval force which fought against the Du tea 150 years ago. Mr. Henry Kibb.ewhite, has died in Hamilton at the age of 82. Born in Fernrifjge, Wairarapa, he was associated with the building trade and became an architect. He lived at Wanganui for some time before going to Hamilton 26 years ago.

Pipe-Sergeant T. S. W. Mulcahy, who leaves shortly to take up service with the armed forces, was met by members and supporters of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band in the Cadora Hall on New Year's Eve. Mr. A. McSkimming, president of the band, in making a presentation, eulogised the sterling qualities of Mr. Mulcahy as a bandsman and said that his departure would leave a gap which would be difficult to fill. Messrs. E. C. Morgan. D. A. Almond and J. Patterson endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker and stressed the capable manner in which Mr. Mulcahy had carried out his duties to the band. Twenty-seven members of the Wanganui Highlano Pipe Band are now serving in the armed forces.
