The games in the final stages were played on the St. John's green under good green and weather conditions. The first round was between Raine (two lives) and Kirkwood (St. John's) with one life, and after an exciting tussle the former proved successful. The second round was between Raine and Gaunt, the latter only having one life. After the 21st. head they were equal with 20 points each, but in the extra head played Gaunt secured a two and victory. The semi-final between Raine and Gaunt was most interesting and very exciting, especially the second half, in which Gaunt had slightly the best oi the game, but only won after an extra end nad been flayed. As this was Kame’s first loss it left both players with one life. The replay, which now became the final, was not as interesting as the first game. Gaunt scored a single on the first end. On the 2nd. Raine secured a full hand and from then on kept in front. A three to Gaunt on the 10th. made the score 12-10 against him. A single to Gaunt on the 15th. finished his scoring. The 16th, 17th. and 18th. ends brought seven points to Raine, making the score 27-11 to him. As the margin for recovery was too great Gaunt decided not to continue playing, consequently the last three ends or the gajne were not played, thus leaving Raine the winner of the 1942 Christmas tournament.
