IN EVELESS EDEN
JOKE PLAYED ON SOLDIERS Writing from North Australia, Allan Dawes. Melbourne Herald war correspondent. says: “Since this little joke was told me by a padre, there can surely be nothing indecorous about it. This area has so long been an Eveless Eden that partial and even complete nudity is common enough on "undress occasions.” though shirts are worn on parade and in public. “It was not remarkable, therefore, that many competitors at a recent sports meeting were caught in the nude when a major and subaltern assisted from a staff car two charmingly frocked women. There was a blind scatter to the concealing waters of a pool. Whereupon Private Ron Dollar and Signalman Jack Reeves slipped off the slinky gowns which they had borrowed from the props of the concert partv. of which they are members, and stood revealed in the undoubtedly masculine shirts and shorts of the N.T. force.”
