HEROIC N.Z. WOUNDED ON DESERT BATTLEFIELD

(P.A.) Wellington, Dec. 15. Stories of heroism among New Zealand wounded in the battlefield were told by a member of the Medical Corps who recently returned from the Middle East after two years’ service in the desert. He said that time and again those very badly wounded who knew they were dying and had no chance urged bearers to attend to others first. Their last thoughts were for the comfort of those less seriously wounded. “You don't hear much about these chaps, but they died like heroes.” This soldier added that Red Cross men who had to be in the front line all the time during operations came to respect the Germans for the way they honoured the Red Cross syipbol. Their stukas never touched it.
