CARELESS CRITICS
AMERICAN WARNING Toronto, Oct. 7. “Careless criticism does not advance our cause but serves Hitler's,” the American Under-Secretary of War (Mr. Patterson) told a labour convention. He added that even though false stories were eventually disproved, they harmfully shook soldiers’ confidence in the effectiveness of their weapons. “In the days ahead Hitler will redouble his efforts to divide the United Nations, using rumour-mongers for spreading stories in America against. Britain, and vice versa,” said Mr. Patterson. “Instead of taking such stories seriously we should remember the heroic deeds of, our Allies.” Mr. Patterson said armament production required suspension of many peacetime standards in respect of hours of labour conditions. He said that strikers were now few and far between but there should be none. “When people grasp the fullest significance of the war there will be none,” he concluded.
