GOLF ACTIVITIES
CASTLECLIFF CLUB RESULTS Last Saturday members of the Castleclift Golf Club played a bogey match in the points competition. P. J. Smith handed in a card 3 down, H. A. Dean 5 down and K. Hepburn was 6 down. Next week-end the first round of the Millward Cup will be played. TAWHERO CLUB SPECIAL MEDAL ROUND. Members of the Tawhero Golf Club play a special medal round on Saturday for a trophy presented by Mr. D. McMillan. Several championship games were got off last Saturday. In the 2nd round, senior section, B. Mclntyre won from J. Cathro. The senior ladies’ final saw the defeat of the club champion, Mrs. D. M. Haggle winning from Mrs. A. Mclntyre 2 up. Being all square on the first round, the winner played the steadier in the second round to clinch the match. The men’s intermediate final saw an interesting match between M. Ryan and A. Godwin. Ryan had established a good lead of three up after nine holes, but Godwin squared the match at the 17th. Playing the 18th in the face of a strong wind, each took three to get on; Godwin essayed a long putt which missed, and Ryan holed his putt to take the hole and the match. Messrs. J. Saltinstall and E. Done were the umpires.
