AIRMAN'S ESCAPE
BOMB DEFLECTS SHELL Rugby, Sept. 28. By releasing a bomb just before an anti-aircraft shell hit him a Canadian bomber pilot escaped destruction. The Canadian was attacking an enemy supply ship when he pressed the bomb release. His bomb dropped down toward the ship passing a Bofors shell in mid-air. The bomb hit the ship, which later was seen to have been beached, and the anti-aircraft shell, which would have hit the bomb-rack and blown the plane to pieces, was deflected through the wing.—B.O.W.
