GESTAPO OFFICIALS BOMB EXPLODES IN “CELLAR OF TORTURE” (By Telegraph—Press Asjociation—Copyright) (Recd. 11 p.m.) London, Sept. 28. Mosquitoes’ bombs killed 30 Gestapo officials in the Oslo raid, ten of wnom died in "The Cellar of Torture” beneath the Gestapo building on Victoria Terrace, where political prisoners were “cross-examined,” says the Stockholm correspondent of the Daily Express. A bomb crashed through into the cellar before exploding and wiped the officials out. They included Obersturm, Fuehrer Bernardt, whose cruelty made his name infamous throughout Norway. He commanded the expedition which savagely punished the Lofoter Islanders after the first British commando raid in 1941. Several German officers were also killed, including the first aide to the German police chief in Oslo, General Rediess. High Storm Trooper officials are still buried under the ruins.

The Germans are trying to hide the effects of the raid. The official list of casualties gives only seven killed and 67 injured.

A flag hoisted by the Norwegian patriots was still flying too. When the British planes appeared the Norwegians stood on roof-tops and waved. According to a private report from Oslo they were indescribably enthusaistic and shouted, “The English have come!”—B.O.W.
