PEARL NECKLACE

WEST END HOTEL THEFT (Recd. 8.5 p.m.) London, Sept. 27. A pearl necklace stated to be worth £25,000, was stolen from a West End hotel bedroom while the owner was absent. This is the eighth big London jewel robbery in seven weeks, all apparently the work of the same gang, which in one instance’ left a card stating: “Sorry to have been a bother,” and signed “The Seal.” The eight thefts yielded between £40,000 and £50,000. Receivers are offering high prices for jewellery, which is scarce because its manufacture is banned for the duration.
