JOKE ON JAPANESE
Among a collection of souvenir in New Guinea is the twisted tailpiece of a Japanese 20001 b. aerial torpedo, fired at a freighter south of New Britain. A few weeks ago Japanese planes on reconnaissance spotted the ship and presumably reported her because out came a flock of bombers to launch a heavy attack. The ship floundered but did not sink. Torpedo bombers followed and they launched their loads. Still the ship declined to disappear. The joke was on the Jap. The ship ran on a reef in July, 1940, and was abandoned as a hopeless wreck.
