BREAD ZONING
SATISFACTORY OPERATION MORE DELIVERY CONTROL PLANNED (P.A.) Wellington, Sept. 28. "Bread zoning having been in opera, tion a week now,” said the North Island transport zoning officer, Mr. H. Christie, "it is possible to see that, without interference with the output of individual bakeries, further improvements in deliveries can be effected. “A number of bakeries are delivering wi.h light vans which carry only a comparatively small number of loaves. This means that they have to make too many trips to carry out their deliveries. The institution of a delivery pool, or even the eseablishment of a joint delivery company such as is already in operation in Napier in the delivery of some commodities. would permit the use of larger vans. These vans need not be of a size requiring more than carsize tyres.
“The Napier system has proved a great success,” Mr. Christie said, "and steps are already in progress to form a similar organisation in Hastings. Pooling permits further blocking of deliveries and helps further to eliminate the parallel running of delivery vans.”
