WOMEN IN FORCES
ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (P.A.) Wellington, Sept. 27. An announcement that the scope of assistance granted by the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board was to be widened to enable women recruited by the Women’s War Service Auxiliary for full-time service in the armed ; forces to apply for assistance, was made on Saturday by the Minister in charge of the board, Mr. Armstrong. “This means,” said Mr. Armstrong, “that women in the armed services are placed on exactly the same footing as men in regard to the operations of the Soldiers’ Financial Assistance Board. Assistance will be granted toward meeting necessary and reasonable current commitments which cannot be met from military pay. No assistance will be granted toward commitments of a luxury type or toward payments on account of debts in existence at the time of enlistment. “Exactly the same procedure as operates in regard to men will be followed and any applications should be made through the nearest branch of the State Advances Corporation.”
