HAWKESTONE GOLF CLUB COMPETITION .MATCHES games in the Hawkestone cor pP ellt ions were played dunng the past week. In the senior championship, the semi-final was Played between C. Rubery and P Groiin and resulted in a win for P. Gronn, who plays L. Saywell in the hna!. In the President’s Handicap, Mrs. Kendrick and L. Saywell finished all square with Mr. and Mrs. F Green in a semi-final and will replay the game. K J Members who have been drawn to play in any of the club’s competitions are requested to make arrangements to complete all matches as soon as possible. MARTON BOWLING CLUB Arrangements have been made to open the bowling season in Marton on Saturday, October 10, at 2 p.m. Members are requested to bring a basket, and lady supporters are cordially invited. It is expected that a rink from Bulls and Hunterville will lake part. The greens are in perfect order, and there is every possibility, if the present fine weather continues, of a roll up this week. “QUICK LORRY” SALE In order to assist in raising funds for the Navy League “shop” a quick lorry sale will be held in Broadway, Marton, commencing at 2.30 p.m. today. BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY A donation has been forwarded to Wellington headquarters of the British and Foreign Bible Society from the Marton branch, by the secretary. Miss Joan Sutcliffe. THE LATE MRS. L. M. MURROW The death occurred recently at her residence, Alexandra Street, Marton, of Mrs. Lucy Matilda Murrow, widow of the late Mr. Sid Murrow, who predeceased her at Christchurch in 1941. Mrs. Murrow was well known in Marton and Napier for her kindly disposition, and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Burton, Napier. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Galland, Nelson, and a family of two daughters—Mrs. Walsey (Christchurch) and Miss Murrow (Marton), and two sons. William Murrow (Marton) and Ron Murrow (Wellington), and six grandchildren. The funeral took place at Mount View Cemetery on September 22, the Rev. W. Raine officiating. The pallbearers were two sons, William and Ron, grandson Bruce, Aircraftman Vic Abbott, and A. Anderson and G. V. Signal.
