PURPOSE ACHIEVED
BRITISH OPERATIONS IN MADAGASCAR Rugby, Sept. 25. With the occupation of the capital of Madagascar and the main ports, the purpose for which the military action was considered necessary has already been virtually achieved. The potential threat to vital Allied sea communications has been removed. Satisfaction is therefore expressed in London that, with this «ask accomplished, General Platt was hastened once again to make clear the motives which rendered the operation necessary, and to reaffirm that French sovereignty is not impaired by it. It is also stated in London that such troops as are still under the orders of Vichy have retired to the southern part of the island. —8.0.W. NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR RESISTANCE (Recd. 8 p.m.) London. Sept. 26. Paris radio announced that Gover-nor-General Annet has established his new headquarters at Port Dauphin, on the east coast of Madagascar, near the island’s southern extremity. M. Annet has not given in. Orders for resistance would now be issued from .Port Dauphin. '
