E.P.S. AT CHRISTCHURCH

KEY PERSONNEL CALLED UP (P.A.) Christchurch, Sept. 27. The effect on the Christciurch E.P.S. of calling up age groups to 45 is causing deep concern, and representations are to be made to the Government that key personnel be exempted from military service. The District Controller, Mr. E. H. Andrews, said the E.P.S. had already lost a big pronortion of the most able, active and efficient men. Further inroads on the key personnel would threaten not merely its efficiency but its very existence as a working civil defence organisation. “We were told by the Government that wardens, controllers and other key personnel would be exempt from service. Unfortunately that has not been true up to now,” said Mr. Andrews.
