N.Z. FORCES CLUB AT CAIRO A decision by the club management to close the beer bar of the New | Zealand Forces Club in Cairo is an- I nounccd in a report to the National Patriotic Fund Board by i!s overseas commissioner. Lieutenant-Colonel F. Waite. According to the report, this I step has been taken so as to reduce | military staffs in all base units, and also for other reasons, and was approved by the G.0.C.. LieutenantGeneral Sir eßrnard Freyberg. Colonel Waite adds that although! it has been decided to close the bar, I the troops will still be able to get ! beer at the camp canteens from 6 j o'clock to 9 o’clock every evening. Writing of th° club generally, Colonel Waite says that it continues to give good service and also acts as a supply agent to unit canteens. “The units,” he says, “run these canteens themselves, get an average of 10 per cent, profit on all they sell, and use these profits for the welfare of the men. The units get New Zealand tobacco and other goods from the club and it is a very satisfactory service.”
