U.F.S. COUNCIL

MEETING OF DELEGATES The report and balance-sheet, read at the annual meeting of the Wanganui United Friendly Societies’ Council, showed that the finances were in a healthy condition. The president, Sister E. M. Wells, presided. There were also present; 15 delegates representing the various orders in Wanganui. The president, in her report, referred to matters pertaining to social security and the delegation who met the British Medical Association, and the unfortunate abandonment of the picnic on New Year’s Day through inclement weather. A general discussion took place on matters of interest in the movement. The election of officers resulted:— President, Bro. W. M. Gordon; vicepresidents, Bros. N. G. Reid, A. J. Ralph, and F. Armstrong; secretarytreasurer, Bro. F. Wilson; auditor, Bro. W. F. Hanton; minute secretary, Bro. J. D. Morgan; trustees, Bros. W. M. Gordon, N. G. Reid, and R. Senior-Partridge. Sister E. M. Wells is the first sister to attain the oresidency, and members spoke of the very trying year she had to endure, as this was the most serious period in the history of the council. She has represented Kotiro 1.0.0. F., for many years, and is secretary of that lodge. Her name will be enrolled on the honours board. Bro. W. M. Gordon, a member of Bishon Lodge U.A.0.D., has represented his order for a long time, and this is his second term as president. He has been closely associated with friendly society matter and represented that body on various delegations.
