RAIDED BY R.A.F. BOMBERS

NAZI SUBMARINE YARDS Rugby, Sept. 24. The Air Ministry states that last night heavy bombers attacked objectives in north and west Germany, including the submarine yards at Flensburg, on the Baltic coast. Coastal Command planes attacked an enemy convoy off the Dutch coast, hitting three medium-sized shins. The ’attack \\as made by Dutch pilots, who thus returned to their own shores to attack the enemy. Ten of our bombers are missing from these operations. Of only three bombers concerned In last night’s slight enemy activity over •Britain, one was destroyed before it crossed the coast. • Berlin radio says: “The R.A.F. last night carried out a nuisance raid in .the northern coastal area. Bombs ’caused some damage and destruction to buildings in residential areas. The Luftwaffe raided important war objectives in a town in eastern England.” Many of our four-engined bombers Attacking Flensburg went down to a few hundred feet. The crews are confident that their bombs burst across the building yards, from which after •heavy explosions, clouds of black 'smoke came up. Many of the bombers flew back almost at roof height, and gunners shot up searchlights and gun posts from ; as low as 50 feet. Other aircraft attacking objectives •further east along the Baltic coast bombed from under 1000 feet. ' The weather generally was stormy over the North Sea. and low clouds, hail, icing and electrical storms made the journey difficult, but the clouds •thinned and the moon lit the coastline as the bombers approached the targets. There has been some enemy activity over the south-east coast of England this afternoon. It is officially stated: Bombs were dropped at three places on the coast and that a number of casualties and some damage have been reported.—B.O.W.
