LIVES LOST IN MID-AIR

EXPLOSIONS OF ARMY PLANES New York, Sept. 23. A Caribou (Maine) message states that two army planes exploded in midair 15 miles apart and crashed in flames simultaneously, killing both crews, numbering 13 persons. The first plane caught fire over « highway, and terrified motorists halted their cars and watched the plane graze tree tops, plummet to earth and explode, scattering the debris and seven bodies over 100 acres. Meanwhile the other plane plunged into a wooded ridge. Witnesses said the plane seemed to come apart in the air.
