THE DAFFODIL SHOW A FINANCIAL SUCCESS The Marton Daffodil Show on Tuesday and Wednesday proved a great success from a financial point of view, the gross takings amounting to £250. The stallholders had a busy time and sold the whole of the goods on the stalls. The Marton Parochial Guild extend sincere thanks to all those who exhibited, the donors, the stallholders and judges for their splendid assistance, which was instrumental in making the show such a success, and also to the performers who provided the evening entertainments. Taking the, petrol and other restrictions in vogue into consideration, the Guild are very pleased with the result of their efforts. MARTON LADIES’ GOLF CLUB A Bogey match will be played on the Marton links to-morrow (Saturday). Following is the draw:—Mrs. Rathbone v. Miss Swan; Mrs. Grut v. Mrs. Fenwicke; Mrs. Morrison v. STEPHEN’S CHURCH Parishioners of St. Stephen’s parochial district are requested to note that, beginning on Sunday next, September 27, the evening service at St. Stephen’s will be at 7 o'clock and not at 4 o’clock as formerly. NAVY LEAGUE DANCE AND EUCHRE The Navy League “shop” which is to be held by the Tutaenui district on Tuesday, October 20, is already beginning to accumulate funds for this object, which all must want to help. To-morrow (Saturday) evening a dance and euchre will be held in the Upper Tutaenui Hall, where there will be good music and one of the best suppers for which the district is famed, also good prizes for the novelty dances and the winners of the euchre. NAVY LEAGUE OCTOBER PARCELS The Rangitikei Branch of the N.Z. Navy League intend sending gifts of parcels to the men of the N.Z. Division of the Royal Navy in October, and gifts of fruit cakes, chocolate, sweets, games, playing cards, books, magazines, etc., are solicited from members and anyone interested. In the June parcels the branch was able to send 221 cakes, and sincere thanks are expressed to all those who contributed in any way to the parcels, and to those who knitted comforts for the men. More knitters would be welcome and the Navy League would be pleased to supply the wool. Requirements can be obtained by ringing 5529. Gifts may be left at the Rangitikei County Council office, Marton, up to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1. CIVIC THEATRE, MARTON In “Tarzan’s Secret Treasure,” at the Civic Theatre to-morrow, Johnny Weissmuller, as Tarzan, has lost none of his instinct and athletic prowess in his latest contact with men of the outside world. In his newest adventure he comes into conflict with a safari of explorers in search of gold. Although he narrowly misses death at the hands of one of their members, and although Jane (Miss O’Sullivan) and their adopted son, “Boy” (Johnny Sheffield) are abducted, Tarzan, with the aid of his faithful ape, Cheeta, and an army ot elephants, finally routs his enemies asd is able to his family to their jungle Pafljlise. A HEAVY DOWNPOUR During Wednesday night there was a heavy downpour of rain and the creeks and streams were running bank high on Thursday morning.
