VALUES AT ADDINGTON

(P.A.) Christchurch, Sept. 23. The store sheep section at the Addington market totalled 1370, including 674 hoggets and 279 ewes with 361 lambs at foot. The highest price for ewe hoggets was 30s 3d for 130 Romney-cross from the south and the remainder ranged from 21s to 26s 9d. Prices for wether hoggets were easier, ranging from 17s 8d to 20s 6d. Two pens of exceptional quality ewes and lambs sold at 20s and 16s 7d, respectively, all counted. One pen of 61 ewes with 109 lambs arrived Jate from the South and were passed in at 13s 9d, all counted. A pen of 45 twotooth wethers realised 30s. No ewes in lamb were forward. Fat Sheep.—An entry of about 4200, or 1000 more than last week. Although competition was again keen there was a slight easing in the price of wethers and a pronounced drop in ewes compared .vith last week’s record sale but values were still on a high level. Three small pens of wethers made from 51s Id to 55s Id, top price of the sale, and seven lots were sold up to 4.85. The first of the season’s shorn sheep were forward, two lines of wethers each making 39s 7d and others made from 35s to 38s. Woolly ewes made up to 45s 6d for a special pen, but average prices ranged from 33s 4d to 35s lOd. Fat Cattle. —An entry of 520 head against 385 last week. The small entry last week sent values up sharply to the extent of about 25 a head, but this was nearly lost to-day, the average easing being about 20s a head. Nevertheless the sale was a sound one throughout. Best beefmade from 48s to 50s per 1001 b., and in some cases up to 52s 6d and most of good medium quality made to 47s 6d. There were some outstanding pens of Shorthorn heifers sold from £lB to £2l 12s 6d. Fat Pigs. —Last week’s high rates were fully maintained for porkers, which made 59s 6d to £5, an averape per lb. of lOd to ll’ld. Baconers made £5 to £6 9s 6d, an average per lb. of BLd to 9i>d.
