AIR CONFERENCE

MEETING AT OTTAWA MR. LANGSTONE’S PLEA Ottawa, May 19. The United Nations Air Training Conference, which is being attended by the representatives of 14 nations, held its preliminary session on Monday. The discussions were continued to-day in closed sessions. The Air Minister will make a statement daily. The conference chairman said the nations represented will work in three main groups: (1) The British quartette, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand—with the United States; (2) other countries with men training in America, such as Norway, the Netherlands and China; (X) countries with men not training in America but chiefly in Africa and England, such as Poland, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Belgium, South Africa, and Free France. The United States group will have at least three committees working on different subjects simultaneously. .Mr. F. Langstone (N.Z.) said the air-training plan was already an unqualified success. Canada could justifiably be proud of her administration. School graduates had already wen glory on every front, but the effort would have to go forward with greater energy, scope and sacrifice. It was necessary to make the Allied forces stronger than the enemy. Mr. Langstone made a special plea for the compleie co-operation and coordination of fighting strength. He said New Zealand was ready to cooperate to the full extent possible.
