LOST AFTER AIR ATTACK
LINER EMPRESS OF ASIA Lodon, May 19. It has been disclosed in Ottawa that the Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Asia was lost after an air attack while taking troops to Singapore during the Malayan campaign. The vessel w as attacked by Japanese dive-bombers, and had to oe beacheo on February 5. Later she burnt out. The Empress of Asia, a vessel ol 17,0Ul ions, which \>i.s built in 1913, was ir convoy with several other troopships at the time of the attack, in company with the cruiser Exeter. One hundrec seamen and most of the Imperia, troops aboard were saved. | Members of the crew' said that tlie\ owed their lives to the Australia! sioop Yarra. which ran alongside tht burning ship and took the men off.
