REDUCTION POSSIBLE
CAR REGISTRATION FEES Hopes held by motorists throughout New Zealand that, in view of the uncertainty of future petrol supplies, they may escape some of the annual licensing, registration and third-party insurance charges during the coming motoring year, are likely to be realised. Although no official announcement has been made, it is possible that thccost of relicensing and third-party insurance may be reduced by about £1 for the 1942-43 year, while it has already been stated that, no new num-ber-plates will be issued. The present, motor registration year extends to June 30. instead of the end of May, and last year licence ' foes and the cost, of driving licences were proportionately increased to ' cover the 13 months. For the 12 months from July 1 this year onward, however, it is confidently expected that, there will be a substantial reduction. The belief is held that, instead of being something over £3, the annual cost of registration and third-party insurance combined may be reduced by about one-third, to a little over £2. The move is due to the fact that, with less petrol available, motorists are not only obtaining less use from their vehicles, but. are also in less danger of being involved in accidents. Wardle, B.
