WANGANUI R.S.A.
REVIEW OF PAST YEAR PLEA FOR COMRADESHIP Though its title has been changed to the Returned Services’ Association, its ideals remain the same—the cate and welfare of all ex-servicemen, together with their dependants —states the annual report of the Wanganui branch of the R.S.A. “This is an increasing care and demands something of us all—that we shall serve those who have served us.” the report adds. “This, we hope, will be the common ideal of all servicemen and will embrace all branches of the Fighting Forces, those who are now serving and those who have served. It is hoped that all will unite in a common bond of comradeship.” Many new members had joined the association, but there were others who had not. The executive urged all ex-servicemen to join without delay. Financial members on the roll at the end of the year totalled 636, an increase of 21. "We regret,” the report adds, "that 37 members failed to meet their obligations for the 1941-42 season, and will be automatically struck off the list in the meantime. “Over several years your executive has conserved the funds of the association, which show a steady increase. To-day, we are better financially than at any period in our existence. Much care must be exercised to preserve these funds, as in the future increasing demands can naturally be expected. "Along with many other branches we again established a record of our poppy sales, this being £32 belter than our best previous attempt. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking the ladies who so generous.y and willingly came to our assistance on this occasion, and we trust that the good feeling may long continue. "The executive has assisted whenever possible with the war effort. From time to time they have farewelled on your behalf the men going overseas. They have also met men returning and every opportunity was taken to acquaint them with the work of the association. Where necessary they have been assisted. Generally, all express confidence in the work that is being done for them, and desire to join up on their return,” the report, add.-.
