HEAVIEST JAP. RAID (Recd. 11.30 p.m.) Melbourne, May 19. The heaviest Japanese raid on any Australian area since the attack on Darwin in February occurred on Monday at Port Moresby, according to today’s Allied Headquarters communique, which says: “North-west sector, Timor.—Our Air Force attacked shipping in Koepang Bay, resulting in direct hits and the probable destruction of two enemy transports. "North-east sector, Port Moresby.— The enemy executed a raid with 34 heavy bombers and 15 Zero fighters, with practically no effect except minor damage to runways. Our planes intercepted and shot down one heavy bomber and probably destroyed three others. Three Zeros were damaged. One of our planes is reported missing.”
