THE LIBYAN FRONT
Hill aaAU A .TBil lltvill ■ BRITISH FORCES CONFIDENT 1 Cairo, May 13. The Axis armoured forces in Libya, ■ which have been substantially rein- ‘ forced, consist of two German panzer divisions, and one Italian armoured ' division. No new formations have ■ been sent. It is understood that most of the ? reinforcements were landed at Tripoli, - where it is estimated that between 10 ’ and 20 large ships have been arriving 1 monthly. ' Aerial reconnaissance has revealed 1 that sheerlegs have been erected in ’ Benghazi harbour, indicating that 1 some heavy material has been landed there, though possibly not much. General Rommel remains in effective command of the Axis operations in Libya. Meanwhile, the two front lines are temporarily stabilised. The Allied line runs roughly east from Gazala, while the Axis line is based on Jebel Akdar. The morale of the British and South African troops is high. The men are full of confidence, and all are anxious to get to grips again with the Germans, especially the South Africans.
