REDUCED RATION
CLOTHING IN BRITAIN Rugby, May 16. New clothing ration books which < will come into use on June 1 contain I 60 coupons, which must last till July 31 next year. the ration will now be at the rate of 51 coupons for | 12 months. Announcing this reduction, tne Board of Trade emphasises the immense importance of the saving which has been achieved so far. A quarter of a million tons of shipping, it is stated, has been saved on textiles alone, and nearly 400,000 men and women have been released to the fighting services and the industries directfy enI gaged in war production. In spite of the increasing pressure • of the war which has necessitated the • reduction, several concessions are I found possible, and children over 16 l on August 1 next will receive a sup- ; plement of 10 coupons, while there is j a large increase in the classes of industrial workers who will receive an extra ration.—B.O.W.
