OCCUPANTS HAVE LUCKY ESCAPE YVAMiAEHU STitUCTI KE Al i E( IED When a 12i-cvvt truck struck a concrete post, at the entrance to the southern end of the Wangaehu Bridge shortly alter one o’clock yesterday morning, seven Public Works Department employees had a narrow escape from serious injury. The truck, vvnicn is owned by W. O. McNeil, ol 33 Jackson Street, vVanganui, left Ohakea alter midnight to return to Wanganui. Three mon were in the cab and four in the back. Coming lo the Wangaehu Bridge the truck, it. is stated, swung out a trifle w'ide and hit a concrete post on lhe fence guarding the approa< h to the bridge, crashing into the left-hand side ol the bridge and smashing about 10ft. of lhe superstructui - . The lorry came to a stop suspended over lhe side of the bridge. The men in the back of the lorry were thrown to the ground and suffered bruises and minor abrasions. Tnere was no insurance on the truck, which was a total loss. One of Mr. McNeil's companions w as driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. It was announced last night that the Wangaehu Bridge would be unsafe for heavy traflic until fuithr-r notice.
