! MEMBERS RALLY AT KORERO Members of the Wanganui Savage Club turned up in force to the second 3 korero of the season held in the club’s hall on Saturday night. Com- ; munity singing was a popular feature , introduced in a programme of bright musical, vocal and humorous items. Past Rangitira B. R. Dobbs pre.sid- .’ ed, assisted by Rangitira E. Lind. The programme opened with the Savage Ode, followed by an overture by tr.e Savage Club Orchestra, under the [ baton of Savage A. Sanders. Visitors ; and new members were introduced, - each receiving a royal reception. “On ■ the Road to Mandalay” and “Fisher- ■ men of England” were songs offered • by Mr. Allan Brown. A sketch, which - evoked roars of laughter, was tnat performed by Messrs. Wansbrough, , Killeen, Windleburn and Tulloch. ; Mr. W. Upton, junr., entertained with • a number of sleight-of-hand tricks, , and “Anecdotes” were given by Mr. , H. Fry. Mr. J. Johnston and Master R. Seabrook were well received in a > piano-accordion duet, Master Seabrook, who is only 11 years of age, also playing a number of pianoaccordion solos. Members honoured the usual minute’s silence at 9 o’clock. The lecturette for the evening was given by Mr. Geo. Fear, his subject being “The Sterilisation of Water.” Following a real good “kai,” community singing was indulged in to music provided by the orchestra. Mr. Bob Gardner received a great ovation for his singing of “My Little Grey Home In The West, ’ and the evening was brought to a close with a sketch, “It Happened in the Blackout,” featuring Messrs. H. Gichard, R. Tulloch, J. Windelburn and Bowra. During the evening Rangitira F. Lind reminded members that tne Savage Club Library was still functioning and requested members to change their books at 7.45 on korero nights.
