WESTMERE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
At the monthly meeting of the Westmere Women’s Institute held on Tuesday last, Mrs. Preston presided. Members stood in silence as a mark oi ympathy to Mrs. Stephens, who has recently suffered a bereavement. Miss Thelma Taylor, who is to be married shortly, was presented with a posy and the good wishes of the institute. Continuing the Golden Thread Mrs. Edwards gave an interesting talk on Stalin. Enjoyable items were given by Miss Denise Cokaly, pianoforte, and Master Jim Chesswass, violin. Mrs. Shanks demonstrated camouflage net-making. On behalf of the Lady Galway Guile. Mrs. Williams appealed for volunteers to remake coats into children’s clothes, and the delegate to the annual counei, meeting reported on the meeting. Members brought a goodly supply or hot-wate- bag covers to be donated to the Red Cross. The creche was supervised by Mrs. O'Reilly assisted by the Misses M. J. O’Reilly and G. Corliss. Hostesses were Mesdames Brownlie, Jepsen, Winwood and Feist. Mrs. Smith thanked all who had contributed to the success of the afternoon. Results of the flower competitions judged by Mesdames Shanks and Andersen were:—Class 2: Mrs. Barnes 1, Miss J. Ross 2. Class 3: Mrs. Carwardine 1, Miss J. Ross 2. Class 4: Mrs. Brownlie 1, Mrs. Williams 2. Class 5: Mrs. Brownlie 1. Class 6: Mrs. Barnes 1, Mrs. Carwardine 2. Class 7: Mrs. Brownlie 1, Mrs. Norrie 2. Class 8: Miss J. Ross 1. Class 9: Mrs. E. Taylor 1, Mrs. Carwardine 2. Class 11: Mrs. Barnes 1, Mrs. Budge 2. Class 12: Mrs. Brownlie 1, Mrs. Dickinson 2. Class 13: Mrs. Carwardine 1. Class 15: Mrs. Williams 1, Mrs. Williams 2. Class 17: Mrs. Carwardine 1. Class 18: Miss J. Ross 1 and 2. Mrs. Carwardine was in charge of the show.
