EUROPEAN FOOD SITUATION
DISCUSSED IN HOUSE OE COMMONS Rugby, May 12. The food situation in Europe* was the subject of a House of Commons -statement by Mr. Dingle Foot, Secretary to tim M:n stry of ? Warfare, who said that food supplies in Denmark had been well maintained, and the diet in Norway, the Netherlands and Czechoslovakia, though well below pre-war standards, was not so inadequate as to cause marked undernourishment. In Belgium and a large part of France, a large part of the urban population was chronically under-fed. 'while there was a considerable diminution in supplies in towns of Yugoslavia. Much worse conditions, however. prevailed in Greece and in some parts of Poland and in Germanyoccupied Russia. On the mainland of Greece it was hoped that famine would be averted by proposed shipments of wheat.—B.O.W.
