MINISTER I RGES GREATER CARE.

(P.A.) Wellington, May 11The Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to-day commented upon the frequency of pedestrian accidents during recent weeks and the need for especial care by pedestrians during the forthcoming winter months. There were seven pedestrians killed by motor-vehicles during the month of April, said the Minister. Six of these occurred after dark ; nd in most, of the cases they were crossing a street when struck down. “Every year,” he continued, “the winter months have brought, a shocking crop of pedestrian accidents and the pedestrian killed is nearly always the one who is careless. I appeal to all to exercise greater care this winter. Remember these two cautions: ‘Watch while you walk, and at, night wear, or carry, something w hite.’ ”

A small trade in Pukekohe table potatoes is still continuing at 19/- a cwt. Supplies of Pukekohe parsnips appear to have petered out meanwhile, no quotation being ivailablc* to-day. pie melons, too, were not being quoted.
