MARTON RESERVOIR
HEALTH INSPECTOR’S REPORT Reporting to the Marton Borough Council last night, the health in- . spector, Mr. Flowers, referred to the pollution of the reservoir by wild fowl. He said wild duck and swamphens were not numerous enough to cause any noticeable pollution of the water. When it was remembered that • practically all the catchment area was farm land. largely used for grazing purposes, it. was not surprising that the water in the reservoir was polluted. The fact that parts of the floor of Tutaenui Valley are swampy would also tend to increase the amount of vegetable growth in the water. Judging from the samples taken over the past three years the quality of the water has varied slightly at different periods. The biggest variations have been recorded in samples taken from the main in town. The matter was referred to the overseer for a report.
