RACES AT MARTON

MANAWATU MEETING PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY Weather prospects do not appear very bright ofr the Manawatu Racing Club’s autumn meeting, which is to be held on the Marton Racecourse to-day but the indications are that nevertheless the meeting will attract generous patronage. Special trains will be run from Wanganui (at 9.40 a.m.), Palmerston North, Taihape and Paekakariki. The totalisaior will be operated on the single-pool system. The track is likely to be heavy. The feature event will be the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes, in which Nizam, Hippodrome and Manpower will meet to give some pointer to the two-year-old supremacy of the season. Though the main handicap event the King George Handicap, has not attracted a large field, and only two of those engaged will carry more than 7.3, it should prove interesting. The Dynasty-Premature bracket will probably touch a short price. Gold Bridge appears best of the remainder. The Johnston Memorial, the open seven-furlong event, makes up for the big handicap, as there is an excellent field. The trio at the top of the handicap appear to hold the best prospects. The remaining events on the eightrace programme have filled well, and the following may appeal in their respective engagements:— Karere Hurdles.—Enjoyment. Great Quex, Kaiwaka. Woodhey Hack No. I.—Sandy Bay, Golden Acre. Sterling Lad. King George Handicap. DynastyPremature bracket. Gold Bridge. Sires' Produce Stakes.—Nizam. Manpower. Hippodrome. Woodhey Hack No. 2.—Soutane, Come True, Amoroso. Adderstone Hack. Poutu. Tau-uru. Squeers. Johnston Memorial.--Tuatara. Black Robe. Night Eruption. Awapuni Hack.—Triple Crow n. Taane Pango, Daljarrock. Following are the acceptors:— 12.0
