SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. H. C. Taylor. Bell Street, left yesterday for Nelson to visit her daughter, Mrs. S. G. Thompson. 1 Miss E. J. D. Wagstaff has been elected president of the Castleeliff Ladies' Golf Club. The death has occurred in Auckland of Miss Margaret. Bollard, a daughter of the late Mr. John Bollard, who was member of Parliament for Eden for 18 years. Her brother was the I-lon. Richard Bollard, M.P. for Waikato. ENGAGEMENTS Bird—Harman.— The engagement is announced of Jean Ruth, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Harman. St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, to William George, only son of the late Rev. W. G. and Mrs. Bird, Gilsland, Mt. Carlisle. Gregory—McLean.—The engagement is announced of Ailsa Marion, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. McLean, St. Alban’s, Christchurch, to John Blake (R.N.Z.A.F.), elder son of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Gregory, Marton. HITHER AND THITHER Attractive Fur Toques. The annual meeting of Trinity Church Ladies’ Guild took, place recently in the Church Parlour, which was decorated with dahlias. The president. Mrs. L. J. Webb Jones, presided. The annual report showed thAat the guild had had a very successful year, activities including church, hospital and patriotic work. Plans were discussed and arrangements made for continuing with the work. The retiring president, Mrs. Webb Jones, secretary, Mrs. T. Ellis, and treasurer, Mrs. L. C. Young, were re-elected to office. They were presented with lovely shoulder sprays by Mrs. Len Bassett. After business was dealt with an enjoyable social hour was spent. Mi's. F. A. Bates sang two solos, and Mrs. N. Fulton gave an interesting reading. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames T. Ellis. Mursell and L. C. Young. Plunket Members Farewelled. On Thursday morning two members of the Plunket Society were farewelled oy the committee at a morning tea at the D.I.C. They were Mrs. J. McGregor, jvho is leaving for Australia to reside, and Mr. J. R. Keenan, who is taking up a position in Auckland .shortly. There were about 20 present. Mrs. T. Hine, president, referred to Mrs. McGregor’s work as a valued committee member and said how sorry they all were she was leaving Wanganui and thanked her for all she had done. Mrs. Hine also spoke of Mr. Keenan’s work as a member of the advisory board, whose help and advice at all times had been freely given and he had helped the committee in many little ways, for which they were most grateful. Mr. G. Gordon and Mr. A. R. Donaldson, members of the advisory board, also paid tributes to the work of the honoured guests and wished Mrs. McGregor and Mr. and Mrs. Keenan the best of luck and good wishes for the future. Both suitably replied and said how much they had enjoyed the work. Mrs. Hine presented Mrs. McGregor with a lovely shoulder spray made by Mrs. J. Nixon. PLUNKET SOCIETY ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH The uKiiiil monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Hine, president, taking the chair. The report of the Plunket nurses showed that durin-?; February there had been 1)71 old and 87 new cases. Visitors to the oflieenuinbered 1656, represented by .836 adults, 737 babies, 78 older children and live others. Visits paid to homes totalled 288. In the pre-natal section there were 5 new and 4!) return visits. The report also stated that the boxes of food and clothing for the Plunket, resting stations had been packed and delivered. Sugar sacks or other suitable materia! lor making mattresses for babies’ beds are still required urgently. A second series of Plunket aid lectures will commence on Tuesday, March 21. Women desirous of registering as Plunket aids are eligible to attend and those who have previously attended Plunket aid lectures may take a refresher course if they so desire. The society is indebted to Mr. Donald, of Westmere, tor collecting and filling sugar bags already to hand. The matron of Stewart Karitane Hospital i-epoited that during February 25 babies and 11 mothers had been admitted and 24 babies and 12 mothers discharged. Canes had been received from Wanganui, Taumarunui, Fordeli, Stratford, Te Kiri, Normanby, Manunui. Raurimu, Halcombe. Taihape, Mahoenui, Marton, Palmerston North, Woodville, Westmere and Waverley. A. donation of live guineas to the funds of Stewart Karitane Hospital I’ronn the Mangnweka sub-branch was acknowledged with thanks. A letter was received from the S.P.C.A.. ’ per Mrs. McPhail, president, thanking the 1 society for the use of its collection ot tins and enclosing a donation of live shillings. Mrs. W. T. White’s resignation at> a committee member was received with regret. Mrs. Hine agreed that Mrs. C. Linwood he appointed to fill the vacancy consequent on Mrs. White’s resignation. Mrs. Hine referred to Mrs. Wickham’s illness, members joining in wishing her a speedy recovery. The following members were elected to the house committee: Mesdames Deacon, Currie, McPhail, Nelson and Woollams. The president reierred to the impending departure of Mrs. J. McGregor to Australia and said the society was losing a most helpful and interested worker. Arrangements were made for committee members to meet and farewell Mrs. McGregor prior to her departure. Mrs. Burr was appointed to the ; executive committee in Mrs. McGregor's ; place. The branch is also losing another keen [ supporter in the person > Mr. Keenan, who : lias for some time been a member of the I advisory board. To Mr. and Mrs. Keenan I the society extended every good wish for the i future.
