In one recent action by heavy and light guns against hostile aircraft two planes were believed to have been badly hit, and subsequently a plane-wheel and a number of German airmen were washed ashore. Two other planes were severely damaged. and hits were scared on others. —8.0.W. NAZI DOWNED IN ARCTIC Rugby, March 17. An Admiralty communique says thßt a Junkers 88, which was attacking a Russian merchant ship in the Arctic, has been shot down by H.M. auxiliary minesweeper Stefa. The Junkers was attacking a Russian ship when the Sefa opened fire and hit the aircraft, which crashed into the ice and burst into flames. The action took place on Friday and the good shooting reflects great credit on the gun’s crew since the Stefa had been at sea in severe weather and ice for a long period.
