GIANT BOMBERS
MASS PRODUCTION OF LIBERATORS San Diego (Cal.), March 16. The Consolidated Aircraft Corporation’s new mechanical assembly line started in operation to-day producing long-range bombers. While military secrecy prevents the transmission of details, it may be said that the planes are rolling off in large numbers. The plant is working on a modified three-shift plan which probably will be expanded. The size of the factory mtiy be imagined from the fact that hundreds of bicycles are used inside by the employees whose duties require trips to various parts of the factory frequently and quickly. The production of big bombers will be augmented soon when the automobile industry completes the factories it is building for this purpose. The Consolidated plant builds the great Liberator bombers and the PBY flying-boats. The motor industry .is being expanded to build both Liberators and Flying Fortresses.
