RODEO AND SPOUTS MEETING. The rodeo and sports meeting organised by the Waimarino A.. P., H. and I. Asso. was held at the Raetihi showgrounds* on Saturday. The events included buck-jumping, steer riding, anil pony jumping, which were conducted by members of the show committee and athletic events which were ably controlled by the Raetihi sports committee. A feature of tne day was the attendance of 700 soldiers from Waioiiru Military Camp under the command of Lieut. Stevenson. There were 270 soldier competitors in the athletic and other events and they, together with 32 bandsmen, marched from the station to the showground.-' and made a very impres- - ■ maud at Waiouru Military Camp, attended the sporta, representing the Camp Commandant, Colonel ( (». Powles, D. 5.0.. who was unavoidably absent. A very fir.,' d:c;.ijy of .-cnool worl was exhibited by the Ohakune. Raetihi. Makakahi and Orautoh Schools, the work being of a I *ery high standard. The Raetihi Women's ! Institute also provided a stall of articles made by its member-. This attracted much interest. | as afeo did a practical demonstration by Mrs. I Murdoch, of Hunterville, of the art of wool 1 spinning. • In the evening a very successful dance was | held in the Druids' Hall. The Services' Club, which was open for the fir«t time, was much frequented and appreciated by the soldiers. This is a spacious room, centrally .-ituated in the town, well lighted and heated, and with every convenience. The behaviour of the men on leave was exemplary and the authorities in charge and the men themselves are to he congratulated on their conduct.
