PETROL RATIONING IN UNITED STATES

Washington, March 15. The War Production Board has ordered a 20 per cent, reduction in petrol deliveries to filling stations on the eastern seaboard of the Pacific. Stations are also ordered to confine operations to twelve hours a day or 72 hours a week. The order is described as an intermediate action designed to hold down petrol consumption until cards could be printed and issued for a rigid rationing programme, which is expected to be initiated within several weeks. Rationing has become necessary not through lack of petroleum but shortage of transportation facilities from the petroleum fields.
