SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS TO BE HELD THIS YEAR (P.A.) Wellington, March 16. School committee elections are to proceed as usual this year, according to a statement made on Saturday by the Minister of Education 'Mt. Mason). Mr. Mason said that the school committee elections were not comparable with ordinary local body elections. “Representa.ions have been made” said Mr. Mason, “that school committee elections should be postponed. The chief ground seems to be that a change of personnel of school committees may cause some disturbance to E.P.S. organisation. It seems to me however, that there is really no reason why any change in the personnel of school committees should of necessity involve any change in E.P.S. personnel or introduce any element of difficulty. “The information submitted to me continued, ‘‘the election of school committees contrasts sharply with ordinary local body elections. They cause very little disturbance or distraction to the community and the loss of time and the expense involved are negligible. “The information submittel to me shows that there is a diversity of i opinion as lo whether the school t committee elections should or should . not b° held but the boards representing by far the greater number of schools in New Zealand are of the opinion that they should be held as usual. For the reasons I have indicated I see no ground for int'-rferenco with the holding of the elections in . accordance with the ordinary routine.”
