RED CROSS SOCIETY
WANGAEHU SUB-CENTR; Mrs. Liggins, president, presided over a well-attended meeting of the Wangaehu Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society recently. Six new members were nominated and welcomed by the president, Mesdames Bari rum. Chapman, C. Baldwin, Fitchett, Weir and Cavanagh. The sum of £” is to be forwarded to the Dr. Collins Disasters Fund. Parcels are to be sent to fifteen boys from the district who are serving overseas, and the equivalent in cash set aside for two who are prisoners of war. The articles were brought to the hall and sorted, and members undertook to each pack and forward a parcel. Instead of the usual “bring-and-buy” stall, there was a display of knitting and sewing which has been done during the last few weeks. The' W.D.F.U. competition for a tin of shortbread was kind!?’ judged by Mrs., Craig: this was won by Mrs. j Humphry. Mrs. Mercer bein': second. The shortbread will b p included in the soldiers’ parcels. During the after-] noon members were busy winding < wool, which was later distributed to to be knitted into various articles.j Afternoon tea was served by the hos-! tosses. Mrs Cracroft and Misses A. and D. Castles, assisted by Miss J. Bienell. The next meeting will be the an-1 nual meeting. Baldwin kind! took the choir, and was accorded a vote of thanks.
