TIRPITZ FOILED

SEARCH FOR CONVOY London, March 13. It is stated in authoritative quarters in London that the recent air attack on the German battleship Tirpitz took place soon after daylight, and fairly close to the Norwegian coast. These facts, in themselves, are a tribute to the efficiency of the British reconnaissance. It is not known whether the Tirpitz was hit, but she was certainly foiled in her objective, which was to destroy an important British convoy carrying arms to Russia. The Tirpitz was located by naval aircraft on Monday and attacked with torpedoes. Though she is described as being of 35,000 tons, it is believed that this figure may be a considerable under-estimate. SEVERELY DAMAGED PRINZ EUGEN AT TRONDHEIM (Recd. 5.5 p.m.) London, March 13. There is confirmation that the Prinz Eugen was more severely damaged than was first believed, says the Daily Telegraph’s representative at Stockholm. The cruiser was hit in a vulnerable section aft, causing damage to the steering-gear, propellers and . engine-room. She is at present unseaworthy. It is expected that the Prinz Eugen will attempt to return ■ to a home base after emergency rel pairs because Trondheim has no dock ? big enough to accommodate her. 1 The Tirpitz put into Trondheim to • refuel.
