TAIHAPE POLICE COURT

PRISON FOR CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS (0.C.) Taihape, March 14. Three men charged before Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Taihape, with failing to parade when ordered to do so were each sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, after which they are to be committed to a defaulters’ detention camp. Accused were John S. King, Leonard P. King, and Reginald Charles Reeves. They pleaded conscientious objection. Allan Smith and J. P. Ryan, charged with being the occupiers of premises used as common gaming houses, were each fined £lOO. Three soldiers charged with being in the possession of liquor in a railway carriage, were each fined £5. with costs 10s. Defendants wore M. T. Blanchard, M. Brittain, and J. A. Wilson. W. 11. Richards, charged with aiding a person unknown in supplying liquor to members of tho defence forces, for consumption off hotel promises, was fined £5 and costs 10s. D. Thompson (a native) and TI. S. Whale were charged with playing a game of chance in a public place and fined £3 each and costs. M. G. Smith, charged with being in possession of liquor near a dance hall, was fined £3 and costs. Bruce Brown, aged 18 years, was charged with aiding a person unknown in the supply, on licensed premises, of liquor lo a person under 21 years of age. He was fined £lO and costs 10s. Malcolm George Johnston was charged with tho unlawful conversion of a motor-cycle and was fined £5, with costs 10s.
