Commander Robert William Stirling Hamilton. R.N., has been lent to (he Royal New Zealand Navy as from January 3, and annointed to a ship as directed.— (Press Assn.). Colonel E. T. Rowlings, of the NewZealand Staff Corps has been appointed brigadier (temporary), and Tem-norary-Colonels A. B. Williams and R. ;S. Park have also been appointed temporary brigadiers.— (Press Assn.). Mr. L. J. Thompson, who has succeeded the late Mr. H. J. McManaway as representative of the Hunterville, Mangaweka, and Bulls Town Board: on the Wanganui-Rangitikei Power Board, was welcomed to the board's monthly meeting yesterday by the chairman. Mr. F. Purnell (Marlon'. Mr. Henry John Clifford, aged 88. has died ar. Morrinsville. Born in Gloucestershire, he cahie to NewZealand early in life. Fie was the oldest, resident of Morrinsville. A prominent. Freemason. Mr. Clifford kept, a store there. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. Cabled advice has been received privately in Wellington of the deal!; in England last week of Mr. Henry ' Spurrier, sen., who for many years, 1 till the time of his death, was man--1 aging-director of Leyland Motor* Ltd. Mr. Spurrier visited New Zea--1 land in the course of a world tour ol the firm’s overseas branches in 1927 and formed many friendships in New Zealand.
